Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated Saudi Arabia’s foundation day at Mrsool Park in Riyadh on Wednesday alongside his club, Al Nassr.
In a video that was shared on the footballers Twitter account, Ronaldo is seen in traditional Saudi Arabian dress, dancing while carrying a sword during the celebrations.
The footballer tweeted alongside the video: “Happy founding day to Saudi Arabia. Was a special experience to participate in the celebration at @AlNassrFC!”
Foundation Day in Saudi Arabia became an annual public holiday following a royal decree. It was first celebrated last year. Both Wednesday and Thursday were declared public holidays and day-long celebrations are taking place across the country.
The origins of Saudi Arabia’s Foundation Day can be traced back three centuries to 1727, when the state was established under the leadership of Imam Muhammad bin Saud.
Last year, Saudi Arabia’s Al Nasr Club signed Ronaldo in a two-and-a-half year contract worth over $200m per season.
