Cornel West on his life and what inspired him to run for US president

Progressive scholar and White House hopeful Cornel West isn't concerned whether his candidacy might let Donald Trump back into the White House.

The 70-year-old is running in November's presidential election as an independent with a message that's likely to appeal to a growing number of Americans disillusioned over the Democratic Party's response to the war on Gaza.

In this episode of UNAPOLOGETIC, West addresses the reasons behind his current presidential run and how his initial support for Barack Obama turned to disillusionment.

He also shares moments from his life that shaped his ideas and reflects on the influence that his parents had on him, in particular how his grandmother was left to bleed to death on the stairs of a whites-only hospital at the age of 31 and how his great uncle was lynched.

He also discusses Israel’s war crimes in Gaza and the "hypocrisy," "mendacity" and "criminality" of the US political system.

UNAPOLOGETIC is a show that unapologetically looks at the life, times and views of some unapologetic and not so unapologetic humans. Hosted by Ashfaaq Carim
