Riffat al-Assad convicted on corruption charges

Riffat al-Assad, the uncle of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has been convicted of money laundering in a French court.

Riffat’s lawyers are appealing the verdict, arguing that factions within the Syrian opposition are trying to smear his name.
