Annual Palestine Book Awards shortlist announced in London

Now in its fourth year, winners of the 2015 Palestine Book Awards will be unveiled at London Hilton

The shortlist for the prestigious Palestine Book Awards has been announced by the Middle East Monitor (MEMO) news site in London.

The Palestine Book Awards is an annual project, now in its fourth year, that seeks to highlight the best books in English about Palestine, from both fiction and non-fiction genres, highlighting the works of authors from across the world.

This year's short list includes a book of photography, a graphic novel and a mystery thriller.

Judges said that 45 books had been submitted for consideration and that the standard of the submissions had been improving year on year.

The 2015 shortlisted authors are:

Baddawi - Laila Abdul Razaq, published by Just World Publications

Chief Complaint - Hatim Kanaaneh MD, published by Just World Publishing

Gaza, A History - Jean-Pierre Filiu, published by Hurst Publishers

Jerusalem Interrupted - Lena Jayyusi, published by Olive Branch Press

The Drone Eats With Me - Atef Abu Saif, published by Comma Press

The Palestinians - Elias Sanbar, published by Yale University Press

Vanished – Ahmed Masoud, published by Rimal Publications

Leila Abdul Razzaq’s graphic novel Baddawi will be published in 2015

The judges this year are:

Haifa Zangana – Author and journalist

Karl Sabbagh - Writer and publisher

Marjorie Mayo – Academic

Peter Clark - Writer and traveler

An awards dinner will be held on Thursday 19 November at the Hilton London Paddington Hotel, at which the winners will be announced.
