Thousands of Christian worshippers took part in the Good Friday celebrations in East Jerusalem, re-enacting the passage of Jesus through the Old City to the Holy Temple of the Sepulchure where Christ is thought to have been crucified. The worshippers, many adorned in fake blood and rags and carrying wooden crosses, travelled down the cobbled streets where Christ is said to have carried his crucifix after the Roman authorities sentenced him to death.
Christianity has its birthplace in historical Palestine, with the town of Bethlehem - where Jesus was born, according to Biblical sources - located in the occupied West Bank.
